Fighting Fire with Retards
The Honorable Judge Nicholas Garaufis. Garaufis is loosely translated in Greek as “punchable face.”
Judge Garafuis, a Clinton appointed federal judge in Brooklyn, has ruled that the NYC firefighters test is discriminatory and blacks and Hispanics are to be hired immediately with back pay and greased skids on promotions.
According to this nitwit the test is obviously discriminatory because a preponderance of the passing grades are amongst white people. It can’t possibly be that the failing applicants are morons.
Well, I’m sorry if the following rant offends NYC firefighters, but this is the truth, so piss off if you have anything to say. Don’t blame me, blame the friggin’ left. You’re losing respect because of them, not because of me.
I consider myself someone of fairly average to maybe above average intelligence. I’ve met many firefighters who seem to be in the same strata. But I’ve also met some that were probably in the lower half of their class (even if we’re just counting shop class.) But I always thought that firefighters must possess some savant-like qualities that I clearly do not have. After all, these are professionals who’ve passed an entrance test, a test that lots of people fail.
Well, I just took the test. It is a retard test. I’m not kidding. I imagine this test to be very similar to the test one gets when psychologists are figuring out where to warehouse vegetables.
I’m sure a majority of the applicants ace this test and then advance to levels that are truly worthy of scholastic recognition. It’s not just hosing down fire. The study of a crime scene involving fire will quickly separate the ones who pass a firefighter’s entrance exam from the MIT-worthy professional. But having said that, WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE FAILING THIS TEST!!!!??!!!! AND WHY ARE THEY GETTING RETROACTIVE PAY AND QUICK PROMOTIONS??!!!??

And so it goes, pages upon pages of more of the same – multiple choices that are based on a paragraph directly above the question, spacial pictures that test your ability to extrapolate what it would look like from a different angle and map reading.
That’s it. You do not need any special knowledge. The key to passing this test seems to be staying awake until the end and having found the testing area.
If this test discriminates it discriminates against the severely retarded, not minorities.
They say the new test is updated to be non-discriminatory. I have to find this one. It must be an iHOP paper place setting.

The fact that the tests are in English is unfair.
Back in the 70′s I lost a lieutenantship in New York. Too much Emglish. Judge Dooling, a Carter appointee, threw the test out. I resigned and never regretted it.
The Department must appoint applicants on a first come serve basis. That’s the only fair way. IOW let the City burn.

mr big fur hat i caught the refrence to shop class. i took shop classes from jr high all the way through high school. i have to say i dont or never have felt that kids who take shop are not as smart as the other kids. ive raised four children in a middle class house, and i must say i have no doubt save at least thousands and thousands of dollars over the last 40 some odd years doing my own repairs and maintenence that you smart kids pay someonelse to do. now whos smart?

By the way, I do all my own repairs around the house and I never took shop class.
I wasn’t disparaging shop class. I was disparaging the practice of shipping off and warehousing dumb students, problem students, and thugs to shop class. It doesn’t mean that there aren’t geniuses and artists in that class.
They don’t take those students and put them in advanced trig.

My first job was in construction and I still do masonry work from time to time.
I consider myself blue collar even when my current occupation is not considered such.
I did not identify with the students in college, always feeling a bit crude in their company. I was first generation college on both sides of my family and always felt like “the others” could smell it on me.

We had the DC fire dept respond to a fire when I was still at work. One Negro female firefighter tried to crawl through an 18″ opening with her breathing apparatus on her back. The Captain (they called him “Cappy” so I assumed he was the captain) had to tell her three times to remove the helmet and gear to get through the hole.
That was probably 5 yrs ago, so this shit’s been going on for some time.

When Brenda Berkman sued the NYFD on sex discrimination, the judge ruled that the part of the physical test that required the testee to do a fireman’s carry on a 120 lb. dummy was discriminatory because females lack the necessary upper body strength to do it.
Moral of the story: If you live in NYC, don’t go above 120 lbs. or if your apartment catches fire, you’re on your own.
These judges believe the masses are asses, just like they are.

You can call all the minorities that failed this test a bunch of ignorant morons. They are.
We know they are.
But as an “elite blogger” I have to draw the line when a black person, sight unseen, is characterized as an ignorant mumble-mouth because any reasonable person could assume that iOTW feels that all black people are the same as the very worst of their race.
That’s not true.
It’s not true of any race.

Back in High School (1971 grad) I took shop and Advanced Placement Mathematics(+3) and Physics(+4). I didn’t know I wasn’t sposed to do that.
Be that as it may, where is the racial bias in those questions? Or is the “racial bias” strictly statistical?
That “judge” should be impeached and imprisoned for fraud.

I don’t understand how anyone in their right mind could think that test is somehow biased. It’s pure reading comprehension at about a grade 7 level. You don’t even have to know ANYTHING about the subject at hand, just read the paragraph and pull out the answer.
Dude, if you can’t pass that test, I frankly don’t want you driving a firetruck, attempting CPR, assembling high pressure O2 containing cylinders, or reading a map to try to figure out where I live.
If anyone in Grade 7 can’t pass that test, it has nothing to do with your culture or race and everything to do with the fact that you have been seriously failed by your school.

I’m old enough that shop was a requirement in Jr. High for all boys when I was a kid. Drafting, electric, wood and metal in 7th grade public school. A quarter each. Elective shop in 8th and 9th grades. Thugs, mugs, studs, jocks and eggheads of all colors and creeds. We were quite diverse and didn’t even know it – because no one cared. It was simply enjoyable.

NYC changed its admission criteria so much, white candidates actually sue the city for discrimination/reverse racism. Only in liberal utopia both blacks & whites can claim discrimination & the latter have a better case ( it that was a fair world)
NY Dept. of Corrections is about 85-90% non-white. Is Garaufis going to enforce retroactive integration over there too?

I looked at the entire test. The main thing is you have to be able to read at about an 8th grade level. Please see later post about blacks in Detroit not being able to read. MMMM a patern perhaps.

If I were black or hispanic, I would find this humiliating and totally insulting and can’t understand why they can’t see it for what it really is.

I was called as a potential juror for the Vincent Basciano case last year, and that wasn’t the look I got when Judge Garaufis told me that “I think that’s all we need to ask for now.” The look was more of a “GET OUT OF MY COURT, YOU IDIOT!!”
