CONTEST: What I Miss About America

Home - by - July 13, 2012 - 19:59 America/New_York - 286 Comments

Writer, Stella Paul, had the commenters on American Thinker responding in a big way to her blog post, What I Miss About America.

This ties in perfectly with our recent troll who challenged us to name one example of how Obama policy has affected us negatively.

We felt it would be a great opportunity for iOTW readers to vent about how the Obama years have changed the landscape by framing it through the “What I Miss About America” prism.

Stella Paul will be the judge, and the winner will receive a Bowing Barry courtesy of Noble War Prize.

Here are some examples of Stella Paul’s snark:
What I Miss About America -
o Going on vacation without the TSA auditioning me for “Stella Does Dallas”
o Gazing up at the sky and not wondering if that’s a bird or a drone
o Strolling through the mall without worrying about racially-motivated flash mobs
o Reading 1984 as an interesting work of fiction

CONTEST IS OPEN UNTIL 4PM ET, SATURDAY, JULY 14th

    Specifics? OK, why not.
Criminals treated like criminals. Fewer repeat offenders. Dirtbags having second thoughts.
    And that segues into.
Children allowed to roam without fear. Doors unlocked. Old people unafraid.
    And that ties into.
    Neighbors unafraid to
Discipline the unruly. Protect the weak. Ostracize the undesirables.
    Which in turn allows
Community gatherings: BBQ’s Holiday celebrations, block parties. All without fear of gunfire, gangs,
    and legal intervention.
And that reminds me of an America without an overabundance of.
Trial lawyers and Tort abuse. That takes away personal responsibility, and individualism.
Yep. That’s what I miss about America.
The community oriented individuals that made up the neighborhoods. The neighborhoods that made up America.

What I miss most is the optimism! Remember after 9-11 there was that period where everyone was just waiting for the next horrible thing to happen? Well, it feels like that all the time now. It feels like everyone is just waiting around for Obama to continue on his path of destruction. Like today- Obama illegally gutted welfare reform- by executive order. But nothing ever happens to him. He is allowed to engage in illegal/despotic acts and nothing is done. So, I look at the houses foreclosed on, the lots not sold, the businesses closed, and I miss the optimism, that great American optimism that we are all together and working towards the goal of making America better by our own personal contributions. Obama and his cronies are like the raptors from Jurassic Park- hunting the citizens of this country down. I hope we are able to stop them.

Boy am I late to this. I know all the good ones aren’t taken, but y’all have done a remarkable job listing how things have shifted, so I’m going to offer a comment outside the contest.

I like Chalupa’s remark up thread: “The days when a dirtbag that murdered 13 service men and women on American soil would be taken out and hanged the same day.”

To me, it embodies so much of the sideways shifts reflected in the culture, the legal system and the military.

    - that there would even be an officer of ME descent whose extremist views were reported and ignored due to ‘cultural senthitivities’ (to me a feminization of what is supposed to be our warrior/defenders). I can’t imagine a Japanese shrink during WWII being anywhere near a position of authority in our military while basically saying ‘Hey, those State Shintoists have got it going on’.

    - that he was not summarily hanged.

    - that the media began pissing themselves doing the enlightened apologist hand-wringing dance.

    - that he’s sitting, fully bearded, housed and fed, playing the system, all maintained at taxpayer expense because the bastard is still alive.

    - that there are American citizens so brain-dead that think he should be found innocent either because his view are ‘culturally correct’ for him and hey! Who are we to judge?, or not guilty by reason of mental defect, whereupon he would be housed, fed and treated at taxpayer expense.

“Thinking a tomato is not a fruit is wrong. Thinking a tomato is a suspension bridge is very wrong.”

We are squarely in suspension bridge territory in so many ways.

Just something to remember for all of those that spoke about the islamo-scum that murdered his fellow soldiers at Fort Hood. He killed 14 people, not 13. Private Francheska Velez was pregnant at the time of her death. Because she was planning on having the baby and not aborting it, this means she considered it a human life and so should we. Therefore, Hasan the Cowardly Scum killed 14 people. I know the gov’t is only going after 13 murder charges. Also remember who is in our White House.

SAVOGAN TSP is available at Home Depot and Lowes in the paint department.
    http://www.amazon.com/Savogran-10621-Trisodium-Phosphate-TSP/dp/B0001GOGQW
    Add TSP to your diswasher:

1 Fill your washing machine’s detergent reservoir with automatic dish washing detergent to just below the fill line.
2 Add 1/4 teaspoon of tri-sodium phosphate on top of the detergent.
3 Close the lid of the detergent dispenser. You want the tri-sodium phosphate and detergent to dispense at the same time in the wash cycle.
4 Run the dishwasher as usual with a full load.
5 Inspect the dishes. If they are not as clean as desired, increase the amount of tri-sodium phosphate by 1/4-teaspoon on the next load. Stop increasing the amount once your dishes come out sparkling clean.

    Tips & Warnings

Avoid the temptation to add excess amounts of tri-sodium phosphate to your dishwasher. Too much of it can etch metal or discolor your dishes.

A sense of community, a pride in the bounty God has bestowed upon us, the appreciation for being here, however we came to be here, and a determination to leave our beloved country better than we found her.

Our current selfishness, slavish devotion to multiculturalism and political correctness, and an unwillingness to do the hard work to earn the blessing given us by God and our forebearers is discouraging… agreed — but remember two things: 1) the mirror the media holds up to us is NOT reflective of me or my countrymen and 2) we have the power to restore the values that make our country not only great, but truly good.
