90 Percent of Egyptian Women Undergo Female Genital Mutilation

The World Health Organization estimates that 97.3 percent of Egyptians women undergo the horrific and brutal practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). Although the practice was made illegal in Egypt, FGM continues today, practically unabated, as reported in the (above) video produced by the BBC.
The most common form of FGM consists of cutting out the entire clitoris and labia minor. The more severe forms involves excision of all the external genitalia (the clitoris, labia minor and labia major) with stitching of the vaginal opening (infibulation), causing a permanent narrowing.
Sheikh Ashraf: FGM permitted by IslamFGM can also consist of cauterization clitoris by burning it and surrounding tissue; scraping and cutting the tissue surrounding the vaginal opening and cutting into the vagina itself; introduction of corrosive substances or herbs into the vagina to cause bleeding or for the purposes of tightening or narrowing it.
FGM can take place during infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood, as a part of marriage or even during the first pregnancy, however the most common time for FGM is between the ages of 5 and puberty.
Immediate side effects of the procedure include severe pain, bleeding and psychological trauma. More severe consequences include shock, hemorrhaging, tetanus or sepsis (bacterial infection), urine retention, open sores in the genital region and injury to nearby genital tissue. Long-term consequences can include recurrent bladder and urinary tract infections, cysts, infertility, an increased risk of childbirth complications and newborn deaths, and the need for later surgeries.

Anytime you mention muslim female mutilation to a liberal, they automatically sqawk back, “what about male circumcision.” Like that makes it okay.
I have no pony in the race when it comes to male circumcision. At least you could argue that it has a health benefit to sex partners of someone who wouldn’t wash all that well.
Female circumcision is to lessen the pleasure of women and subjugate.
Two whole different arguments.

@Dianne — I do not know if this is true, but I’ve read that females have a 25-30% greater chance of getting cervical cancer from having sex with an uncircumcised partner.
Once again, this may be one of those 85%-of-all-statistics-are-made-up things, but something rang true about it. I do not remember when or where I read that but I thought, at the time, this would be a serious talking point for the femi-nazis.
I can think of no similar “reason” (you know what I mean) to mutilate a woman’s genitals.

I’ve never heard that one, but it’s absurd!
Unless…the male circumcision was done by hacking off the entire male organ while holding the testicles in a vice grip, then removing the foreskin with a welding torch, finally crudely reattaching the organ, thus ensuring maximum scarring and permanent nerve damage.
And usually without benefit of anesthesia.

Having a tiny amount of penile foreskin cut soon after birth with sterile instruments by a medical professional in no way compares to what FGM does to young females. I know men that have opted to have circumcision as adults and they wish it had been done for them as an infant. There are real benefits to male circumcision. There are none for mutilated female genitalia. Hygiene is made difficult. Menstruation is made difficult. Urination is made difficult. Intercourse is made painful and often impossible. Anal intercourse is often substituted due to the difficulties with vaginal penetration post FGM. What a sick culture. It is amazing to me that they don’t sew women’s eyes shut so that they can’t look at men. Savages.

A few months ago, Hillary Clinton made a statement about ending female genital mutilation around the globe for the 9th Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM.
