Walter E. Williams: States should nullify Obamacare — won’t lead to military action against states

On Rush Limbaugh’s Thursday program, George Mason University professor Walter E. Williams outlined the case that states can nullify Obamacare, citing Thomas Jefferson’s 1789 Kentucky Resolution, which was a claim that the U. S. Constitution is a compact among the several states, and any power not delegated to the U.S. government is void.

“I think the American citizens ought to press their state governors and legislatures just to nullify the law — just to plain nullify it and say, ‘The citizens of such-and-such-a state don’t have to obey Obamacare because it’s unconstitutional, regardless of what the Supreme Court says,’” Williams said.

Williams cited Marbury v. Madison, which said “all laws which are repugnant to the Constitution are null and void” to further the case for nullification from the states.

I like what I’m hearing here. It is way past time for the States to rise up and assert the large measure of autonomy they once had, and which is guaranteed by the Constitution.

“These United States” takes on a fresh meaning when you do not capitalize “United”.

    Repugnant certainly describes ObamacareTax.

My husband said the twentysomething’s at his work are still enamored with O as well as a lot of the thirtysomething’s. They all think he deserves reelection. He’s stumped. Facts have no affect at all. Everyone is a liberal in this state so
they are incapable of independent thought. Go figure.

My early apologies for how WA state votes in 2012…although the Repub is leading in the polls for governor so there may be a elm glimmer of hope.

Wow, I REALLY hope I keep reading about and hearing this rising tsunami. This could seriously put BO down the drain — if you pardon the mixed metaphor!

The States acting in concert could well be the last hope liberty in this country has. The fed is out of control and refuses to be limited by the constitution. The high court is complicit.
But the fed cannot exert control over individuals without the cooperation of the states.

The Tea Party may be wasted in washington. Perhaps their true place is in state government.

    From TFA-

“I don’t believe that you could find a United States soldier who would follow a presidential order to descend on a state to round up or shoot fellow Americans because they refuse to follow a congressional order to buy health insurance.”

Gotta disagree with him on that one… Just look up footage of troops using LRAD on protesters outside of G8 meetings etc.

I see where he is coming from, but while many US military personnel wouldn’t, some will and those who would have been identified.

Some of our military men are little more than rabid dogs tugging against a thin chain. If their superior officer said “Billy Bob Johnson Jr is a terrorist go shoot him” they wouldn’t think twice.

In 1789 yes, 1889 maybe, 1989 doubtful, but in 2012 it will never fly because the state houses are filled with the same corruption and thirst for power as Congress. Once they see the money and connections from this they will back it just like Agenda 21 and all the GreenWashing crap.

Mr. Williams is assuming that governors and state legislators have balls – which is not generally the case.

I know that Jefferson City, MO is filled with gutless, ball-less, money-grubbing, corrupt eunuchs (as is Annapolis, MD).

I emailed Gov. Snyder in MI. I’m sure he’ll listen to me. After all, I voted for him. Okay, it was the lesser of evils, but I still voted for him…
