Shock: British NHS Euthanizes 130,000 Elderly Patients Annually

Shocking news from England today has top NHS officials indicating doctors acting in the UK government-run health program annually kill as many as 130,000 patients prematurely because of overcrowding at hospitals, medical clinics and nursing homes.

Professor Patrick Pullicino indicated doctors are turning to a so-called “death pathway” protocol that is essentially active euthanasia of patients, according to a London Daily Mail news report. Pullicino, a consultant neurologist for East Kent Hospitals and Professor of Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Kent, made his remarks in a speech before the Royal Society of Medicine in London.

He claimed there was often a lack of clear evidence for initiating the Liverpool Care Pathway, a method of looking after terminally ill patients that is used in hospitals across the country. It is designed to come into force when doctors believe it is impossible for a patient to recover and death is imminent.

It can include withdrawal of treatment – including the provision of water and nourishment by tube – and on average brings a patient to death in 33 hours. There are around 450,000 deaths in Britain each year of people who are in hospital or under NHS care. Around 29 per cent – 130,000 – are of patients who were on the LCP.

Professor Pullicino claimed that far too often elderly patients who could live longer are placed on the LCP and it had now become an ‘assisted death pathway rather than a care pathway’. He cited ‘pressure on beds and difficulty with nursing confused or difficult-to-manage elderly patients’ as factors.

Pullicino admitted patients are too quickly put on the pathway who need basic medical treatment and have long lifespans ahead of them. He said he personally intervened to take a patient off the LCP who went on to be successfully treated and told the paper it is “palpably false” that all patients subjected to euthanasia have a grim medical prognosis.

I don’t believe in keeping me alive when I don’t know if I am alive. The paperwork is in place and the physician and the children have been informed.

Therein lies the key for a responsible, dignified exit.

Ezekiel Emmanuel saw this story and leaped for joy! Are the Emmanuals’ parents still alive or did they meet this fate? Wouldn’t surprise me if the boys chose plastic bags for mom and pop. Something is bad wrong in that family.

How does one define elderly or sick? Leftists redefine words all the time….so they could define anybody deserving death regardless of age or health.

    It’s happened before…

How does one define elderly or sick?

If it involves euthanasia, I would define sick or elderly only as anyone that believes in islam.

And if you listen to a koolaidian like Pelosi try to spin this, what you’ll hear is that Palin is still wrong. There are no death panels in ObamaTax, and in Britian, they are “pathways” which are different.

Yeah, I know. Everytime I hear Pelosi speak my ears bleed, too.

Here is a comment from the article linked by @Toaster.

I have a very good understanding of the L.C.P. My Nan was still able to eat and drink small amounts, until a Syringe Driver was placed in her arm. She never woke again after that. Her eyes popped open and she was unable to close them, they were so badly blood shot. We were told not to sponge her mouth anymore as there was no point. I asked a Nurse, who said of course you can, the sponge stick was dipped into medicated water. My Nan had not closed her mouth for three days and had not moved, her jaw was really low, she clamped down on the sponge stick. We were horrified, it is a very cruel, agonising way to die. How can any Doctor say it is not, sedated and given strong painkilling Drugs, who can tell you of their experience? My Nan was not terminally ill, the L.C.P. is misused and sadly so many thousands of vulnerable people are dying prematurely and unnaturally.

In other words, she died the way Terry Schaivo did. In the horrible pain of dehydration.

Come on, libtards! Tell me this won’t happen here! COME ON YOU PHUCKING SCUM! PROVE IT WON’T HAPPEN HERE WITH OBAMATAX!

Today patients in the US can optionally file a Do Not Resuscitate – DNR- order when hospitalized. Watch for that option to become heavily promoted under Obamacare – especially when the patient reaches a certain age.

Also the Brits have been big on “Palliative care” for years. A fancy term for a pathway to controlled death. Hospitals here are doing the same now. Look for it being promoted as a progressive feature of Obamacare.

Won’t be long before primary hospital care will be like the scene in Soylent Green when Sol Roth, aka Edward G. Robinson, was given his choice of videos to watch as he sipped his final drink in life.

The “death pathways” are end-of-life abortions.

Pro-lifers in England should be stationing themselves in the hospitals, medical clinics, and nursing homes to try to prevent these murders.
