Trayvon v. Zimmerman

Home - by - March 23, 2012 - 16:30 America/New_York - 63 Comments

Could the Sanford Police handled this case any worse? Probably not. They’ve lost the narrative to race hucksters and anti-gun coalitions. When the story was breaking nationally they should have called a national press conference on the steps of any Sanford municipal building and set the record straight with what they knew to be the facts of this case.

There will always be some misinformation reported by news agencies and then picked up by other news outlets and blogs, myself included, and repeated until they become the truth as seen by the court of public opinion. When a story can be politicized the legacy media will always push left. The Sanford police didn’t offer any resistance.

Before I get to what is being reported below, I still want to say that Zimmerman made his own bed. When you pin the tin star to your chest there are responsibilities, particularly when the Obama administration is pushing an anti second amendment agenda. Zimmerman has handed them a Fast and Furious moment.

I don’t know a lot about the Charleston Conservative Examiner, but they are characterizing themselves as a rare voice in this case. I’m not sure if everything they present helps Zimmerman’s case, but it if true it certainly is indicting evidence against the media. Here is what they are reporting.

Examiner -

-The media … their articles with outdated baby-faced pictures of Trayvon. Very few include that he was a towering 6’2” football player.

-Many news articles have also claimed the neighborhood is ”mostly white.” The neighborhood is only 49% white. It is over half non-white.

-The witness reports that George Zimmerman was on the ground and Trayvon is on top of him punching him.

-The witness says that George Zimmerman was screaming and yelling for help.

-Police arrive and find Zimmerman bleeding on his face and the back of his head. He also has had grass stains on his back. All this confirms the story told by Zimmerman and the witness.

-Police play the 911 tape for Trayvon Martin’s father, who tells police that the voice screaming is not the voice of his son.

-Would you be surprised to learn that there were eight burglaries, nine thefts, and a shooting just in the past year? In fact, the local homeowners’ association reports that George Zimmerman actually caught one thief and aided in the apprehension of other criminals.

- In fact the Miami Herald goes on to interview neighbor, Ibrahim Rashada, who is black. Rashada confirms that there has been a lot of crime in the neighborhood and indicates to the reporter that the perpetrators are usually black.

The media also characterizes Trayvon as a “model student.” In fact, he under a five day suspension when the shooting took place. That is why he was staying at a house so far from his school on a school night. A laywer for Trayvon’s family has blocked access to his school records. However, you have to do something pretty bad to get suspended for five days.

That is a great article by the Charleston Examiner.

I spent 7 years in Atlanta and violent crime involving children/teens happen weekly, tragic stories but after the short blurb on the news they’re forgotten.

The only reason this is a story is it fits a media narrative they desperately want, truth be damned they’ll write the story the lefty libtard way.

The only statement presented by The Examiner is: “However, you have to do something pretty bad to get suspended for five days.”

There’s a pretty strong case for the capriciousness of schools enforcing bizarre rules.

Racial arsonists Sharpton, Farrakhan & co weren’t moved to comment one bit about the Christian/Newsom murders in TN in ’08. Those bad actors are just being elevated to a national platform (again) to spew their hate.

In 1992, a friend and I went to a Laker’s playoff game at the Fabulous Forum in Inglewood. The game went to overtime, and after it was over, the parking lot was full of roving gangs and I could see buildings burning all over South Central Los Angeles. A couple of LAPD officers had to escort us to our car, and everyone was shunted out of the Forum down Manchester Avenue to the 405 freeway. While proceeding down Manchester – slowly – we could see large gangs looting various stores. That was the day the Rodney King riots started, and the flash point was only a few miles away from the Forum.

I would imagine few, if any of the race baiters have ever personally seen a large scale riot. I have, and it’s very unnerving. There is a palpable herd mentality, and the crowd can turn from merely milling around to violent and destructive in an instant. One learns how thin the “thin blue line” really is – in that situation there simply is no controlling the crowd and the police just let matters run their course. Civility and reason cease to exist.

Race baiters such as Farrakan and Sharpton seem to have little or no idea of the potential effects of their rhetoric. If they incite a riot, I can only hope that they are in the middle of it and learn firsthand what they are promoting.

As turtleherder aludes above one other thing keeps getting overlooked. The Orange County Florida sheriff’s dept is highly leftward leaning. Heck, Orlando FL is one of the most liberal of all geographies within the state. Both the police force and the Orlando judiciary are liberal leaning.

If there was one scintilla of evidence to prosecute Zimmerman they would have gone full-one wolverine after him. The fact they did not speaks volumes.

I find this a curious response for the family of a “model” student who “majored in cheerfulness”. To bolster their claim, one would expect them to release his entire permanent record, not have it sealed.

Mr. Zimmerman is the asshole in this case. From what I have heard and listened to he acted stupidly.
The kid may have been a badass but Zimmerman was big enough to take him down. Besides,, Zimmerman was told(ordered) not to pursue him, and wait for the police. He, being an untrained idiot with a gun, disobeyed and pursued and shot the kid.

Fuckit. This only gives the ugly racebaiters like Furckican, ,Dullton, Jacksooon, CNN,MSNBC, and the other scum ammunition to start a race war.
As I said before the MEDIA are the Zippos. They want to have it.

@Moe Tom, gotta disagree with you here. :(

The issue of whether or not Zimmerman was justified in his actions was determined by the police to be ok. However, granting them another go round, we’ll have to wait and see.

However, the witness reports of Zimmerman on his back being punched in the face by the 6’2″ Trayvon, do lend credibility to the police conclusion. But I digress. The issue has moved beyond legality into a controlled narrative of protecting the President from his position.

The institutional left has to go all-in now to defend Obama regardless of the actual facts surrounding the event. THAT BECOMES THE BIGGER STORY.

The institutional legacy media now needs to hide ANYTHING that can exhonerate Zimmerman, including the eye witness reports, school records and background of the kid. Now that Obama’s reputation is on the line they need to make sure Trayvon looks like a choir boy now.

This is the EXACT same script Alton H. Maddox, C. Vernon Mason, and Reverend Al followed in November/December 1987. The trio muzzled Tawana Brawley and claimed everyone from the local police to New York Governor Mario Cuomo was engaged in a massive cover-up. However, the reality was far from their narrative.

This is virtually identical, with the additional rabid media need to protect Obama sitting as the proverbial “cherry” on top.

Reminiscent of the Henry Louis Gates arrest and ‘beer summit’. With no info whatsoever Obama says the (white) cop did the wrong thing and acted out of racism. Turned out that the cop in question had been lauded by his (black) police chief for his racial sensitivity, and in fact trained others in that regard – a poster child for not being racist. Why does Obama feel the need to wade into things like this?

  34. Grandpa

    March 24th, 2012

Moe, yep I totally agree on that point. The “race war” was a predetermined canned script looking for an event to land on. They found one.

Just like the “Together We Thrive” (Arizona-Giffords) narrative was a canned script waiting for the opportune moment to be showcased. Who can forget the Together We Thrive Memorial *cough* rally complete with T-Shirts, applause lines, and cheering auditorium, so too will this Rally for Trayvon be turned into the next cause. As you say, the “race war” cause.

It is an unfortunate, but highly neccessary strategy of optical and emotional control. The specific intention is opportunistic distraction from the reality of failed Obama policies. That is why he runs to the Rose Garden to give his unsolicited opinion…. it’s all diversionary.

Now they have opened the can they must follow the script, and it must conclude in the manner of their construct. It must. They need it to.

If it wasn’t Mr. Zimmerman it would have been some other naive sucker who made a stupid decision, and was left with a stupid outcome to defend. I doubt you will find a large portion of the electorate thinking about how their actions will be manipulated by the media on behalf of a President.

The best we can hope for at this point is “full vetting”. Meaning actual, factual, discovery of facts surrounding this event. With those in hand and in the public relm the race-baiters will withdraw from view and wait for another more worthy opening to exploit. If they don’t find one, they’ll create one. :(

Here is an observation from a police report no longer available to be viewed. Presumably due to the fact a “witness” name and address were identified in the initial report. Supposedly this witness reported to police they saw Trayvon above Zimmerman while Zimmerman was on his back in a grassy area just before the gunshot.

The death weapon was a Kel-Tec PF9 semiautomatic 9mm pistol. It was reported that the gun was recovered with a full magazine and that only the chambered round had been fired.

This is a condition we associate with something preventing the gun from cycling a fresh round from the magazine into the chamber after the shot was discharged.

One thing that can cause this condition is another man’s hand wrapped around the pistol, retarding its slide mechanism.

This would indicate, as could certain gunshot residue patterns or cuts in certain places if found on Trayvon Martin’s hand(s), that a struggle for a gun was taking place when the fatal shot was fired.

This would clearly change the shape of the media reports of the case. and would be included in the now “sealed” initial police report. Also, easily confirmed with autopsy results which must certainly be available to investigators of the intitial reporting.

But, why is the media not requesting the autopsy results? And what of the toxicology reports of both Zimmerman and Trayvon? It is standard practice to take samples of blood alcohol levels in any shooting.

The sealing of these factual bits of evidence speaks more toward exhoneration than guilt. If the facts, autopsy, toxicology, et al did not add up to the explanation of Zimmerman and witnesses Mr. Zimmerman would have been immediately held for further questioning.

But then again, this don’t fit the narrative does it?

These extra facts do give some perspective to this story. You left out that Zimmerman is no angel, by the way. And Zimmerman did not have a reason to pursue this kid except that he “looked like trouble”. The kid was on the phone to his girlfriend at the time Zimmerman may have shoved him – is it really fair to fault him for not being on the phone to 911 if he was not really anticipating that some guy for no reason planned to shove him around?

If we erase the whole race issue what is left is a kid who was confronted whose only crime was walking back to a house he was visiting after buying some skittles. It does not matter if he was a big guy or that he wore the same thug uniform every kid wears from the age of 5 on up to 27. It does not matter that he was on suspension from school. At the time he was not doing anything that warranted him being followed by some one with a gun and a preconceived notion that here was someone up to no good. As far as we know his crime was being a pedestrian in an unfamiliar neighborhood in which he was a visitor. I have been guilty of that crime.

BULLETIN: If you are a conservative it is a guy like Zimmerman who ought to make you a tad paranoid – he doesn’t like the way you look so he is going to pull the neighborhood watch version of “demanding to zee your papers” – I live in a Central FL neighborhood that has its own sketchiness – homeless people sleeping in my backyard, guys killing their girlfriends with machetes — I have had property stolen and in 25 years I have only called the cops about five times – Zimmerman within a year or two had called them 46 times, including one time to complain about children playing in the streets. And by the way he lives in a gated community.

Ironically if Trayvon had killed Zimmerman because he was defending HIS life (after all if someone who by the way has no indication he works with cops, is a cop, is just some guy who jumped you –it is common sense and human nature you would fight him, especially if you see he has a gun…) he could have used the same “stand your ground” doctrine, but would the Sanford cops have let him go too?

    Thumb up +1

  44. Moe Tom

I’ll try to explain the way I feel. I feel that Zimmerman is probably a coward. Loves police work. Studies Criminal Justice. Wants to be a cop or FBI agent, or Secret service agent. Wants to prove himself. Heard he called in 60 something “suspicious sightings” as a watchdog in the community. The Police must have been aware of who he was. That’s why the cop told him to stay away, we’ll handle it, just meet us. But he went ahead and ended up shooting the guy.

He should have been immediatly been arrested and brought before a magistrate.

THat did not happen. Now we, I mean “we the People” will suffer the consequences. If I were in charge I would fire that Police Chief in a New York Minute.

@Janif, Both men, according to initial reports, were “squeaky clean” in terms of their background. We now know, meh, not so much. There were allegations of domestic abuse against Zimmerman, and a conviction for resisting arrest, in his past.

Young Mr. Martin was no choir boy and was in the complex in the first place so his dad could straighten him out after being kicked out of school for two weeks… for what, we don’t know.

The neighborhood this took place in has seen a lot of crime. There were eight burglaries, nine thefts, and a shooting just in the past year?

In fact, the local homeowners’ association reports that George Zimmerman actually caught one thief and aided in the apprehension of other criminals. The Miami Herald wrote about this on March 17th. None of the thousands of articles and cable news segments that came after, thought this was important.

In fact the Miami Herald goes on to interview neighbor, Ibrahim Rashada, who is black. Rashada confirms that there has been a lot of crime in the neighborhood and indicates to the reporter that the perpetrators are usually black.

Was Zimmerman zealous? Who knows? Did Zimmerman have a preconception about black males in his gated community based on his historical reference? Again, who knows but there does appear to be some justification in that general direction.

All this is said not to be defending Zimmerman per se’, but one thing is certain; there will be thousands of people insuring justice for the kid, and few thinking of what happens to Richard Jewel’s of the world who are dragged into the town square by the media and subsequent mob mentality.

Proceeding with an abundance of caution should be the distinction. Alas, prudence is not an inherent characteristic of the town mob. :(

Agree that the jury is out on some of this — also agreed that the media predictably took this for its racist narrative and ran with it and there could be awful consequences from that.

But sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. I see kids like Treyvon all the time – they may be up to something, then again they may just be walking home from the grocery store or from a job at the grocery store. That was the point I was making – nobody deserves to be harassed for walking down the street, ‘kay? No one deserves to be followed by some antsy guy with a gun in his car because he happens to look like the guys who “always get away with it”. And Treyvon did not deserve to be shot because he made the gut decision to fight back a stranger who decided for some internal reason of his own that he was trouble.

So out of 46 calls he gets one right. I have better odds with scratch-off Lotto tickets,I have had better odds just from the few times I have called cops, and I never joined a neighborhood watch. Hell, if crime is so rampant in that neighborhood that is lousy odds. Zimmerman is not the guy who you want as a neighbor or a cop. Zimmerman is the guy who will report you if your dog takes a leak in your yard without a leash, or if your grass is half an inch too high. Zimmerman does not need to be the poster child for the conservative movement just because he owns a gun. There should be no knee- jerk defense of Zimmerman anymore than there should be some sainthood bequeathed on his victim.

And what really strikes me as beyond odd is the fact that after the shooting took place neither Trayvon’s father, nor the girlfriend he was staying with were aware of, nor looking for, his whereabouts for THREE DAYS after the shooting. Can you imagine?

What does that say about the general relationship, or expectation of the adults (Father and girlfriend) Trayvon was staying with within the gated community. It wasn’t until three days after the shooting they were notified by the police. 17 year old Trayvon Martin, lay in the county morgue for three days before police alerted his parents of their child’s death.

Doesn’t that strike anyone else as odd? and why wouldn’t the media be seriously trying to reconcile that strange situation?

    http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/11778354/content/90980409-wanted-dead-or-alive-posted-issued-by-new-black-panther-party-for-george-zimmerson-phto-c

Also, how is it that a man can be arrested for threatening the life of the police chief yesterday, and yet the Black Panthers can generate a Wanted Dead or Alive poster for Zimmerman and not face the same enforcement.

Is a death threat against Police Chief Bill Lee more substantive than a documented death threat against George Zimmerman complete with pictures and evidence?

Excellent points, Grandpa, about the full mag, the background info and the fact that his family did not care to look for him for 3 days. I would say that the fact of the 2nd round not being chambered is virtually proof that Zimmerman was locked in a hand-to-hand struggle. The fact that only one round was fired is further proof of Zimmerman’s restraint. Tawana Brawley all over again. Zim is a hero, and their neighborhood should be grateful to him for his bravery.

To be honest, one would think that Sharpton, who has caused murder in the past with false accusations, accompanied by the usual race hustlers; obama with his interference into another false race issue with the police on behalf of his friend; Holder charges of racism, against only ‘whites’ and, never against another race, as long as he represents the nation of us ‘cowards’, dropping of the black panther discrimination etc. -you get the point.

Holder is obamas’ protection wall, whether its Fast and Furios, other criminality involving obama and, his crew, incl a forget BC posted by obama etc…and, unless he is impeached, it will only get worse.
Flashmobs, black-on-white crime, libeling of opponents, false charges or looking the other way anything obama, voter ID issue, has all gotten worse since 2008.

Not long ago, Ulsterman reported based upon WHI, that they desire a race-war this election year, with Jarrett being the main instigator – they want to win, even if it burn America to the ground.

We and, our side is slow in responding, or setting the record straight, because we have nobody in the GOP to say ‘enough’ but, rather sticking their head so far up their ass; it’s not funny at all anymore.

At least they don’t blame Bush or Sarah this time; but I still accuse obama and, his crew of racism and, that I wont change my mind on; he NEEDS to do some soul searching!

Murder, unless self defense, is not ok ever, no matter wat color or etnicity comittes the crime!

The race-baiting narrative is beginning to unravel.

ORLANDO – A witness we haven’t heard from before paints a much different picture than we’ve seen so far of what happened the night 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was shot and killed.

The night of that shooting, police say there was a witness who saw it all.

Grandpa, you are a super-sleuth. The info you are giving here is relevant.

This whole incident and the race-baiting seems to go hand in hand with the critical race theory that the emperor and his bulldogs espouse.

BFH, you are doing a great service by being “Radio Free America” and blogging critical events.

    Thank you.

All I need to know are two things: 1) the Democrat Media Complex is reporting that Zimmerman is white; and 2) the Racebaiter-In-Chief said what he said about his make-believe son looking like Martin.

These people are in desperate need of a distraction. I just hope their expectations are not exceeded. This holds potential for turning into a monumental race riot.

Wow, you people are simply incredible! You do realize that the “New Black Panthers” are NOT representative of the Black race, right?

Jeez, get a grip. You’ve allowed less that a dozen men, who have absolutely NO authority, upset you. You’re talking about a race war, now who’s behaving barbarically?

I don’t know about anyone else, but i’m quite content with justice PROVING ITSELF, instead of inciting a modern day Civil War.

Oh yeah, you try to prove a point by stating facts about Black/Black or Black/White crime, but you failed to state that justice was served in those cases. And we refuse to accept any less for Trayvon.

& for the record, Obama NEVER said anything derogatory, or blamed whites for anything! He simply said that his son would resemble Trayvon Martin, in more or less words. Also, what’s wrong with doing a little soul searching? Apparently, this whole country needs it!

**Also, the responding officer has a record of COVERING EVIDENCE before, in 2010. So what are people supposed to think?

I agree the media may be exploiting this a bit too much. But that doesn’t change the facts, this is a painful time for Black people. It brings up memories and recollections. Try to be considerate, and unbias and see how long it lasts.

If only justice were permitted to let run its course.

Stating “I agree the media may be exploiting this a bit too much.” is similar to saying one is a little bit pregnant.

The media has done its best to make disparate facts and half-truths fit a narrative in which liberals (but I repeat myself) know that in crime, guns are bad, all whites are evil and all non-whites are victims. Besides, trying and convicting someone in the court of public opinion is easy.

“New Black Panthers” have put out a BOUNTY ranging from 10K to one million dollars. Is that just, or of our laws? Spike Lee informs his followers of an incorrect address, exhorting people to ‘get him’. Is that a right thing to do? Sharpton, Jackson and Farrakhan (an unholy trio of publicity whores and hate mongers, if ever there were one) construct protests to appeal to their base of their most base instincts. Do you actually think that helps this situation resolve to a just conclusion?

And the president weighs in with a disgustingly opportunistic remark that does little but maintain tensions, if not heighten them outright among his true believers. Contrary to what his followers feel – because as far as I can tell, there’s not a hell of a lot of thinking going on – he’s all about divisive tactics of race, sex and class right down the line. All you have to do is read what he says, as much as what he doesn’t say.

All this before the facts are known.

ARE YOU GETTING ALL THIS DIANNE? ARE YOU SEEING A TREND? Or are you just some fuzzy headed well-meaning kumbaya eloi? Please.

And we’re supposed to not question the obvious machinations, or highlight the hypocrisy because “it’s a painful time for Black people..it brings up memories and recollections”? Really? What facts are you talking about, you muddle-headed gooder? Ask yourself how the families of Channon Christian or Christopher Newsom deal with pain every day. Or the kid in St. Louis who was doused with fire and set ablaze last month because he was white.

This is #WAR. Not the race war you reference – that’s what the -ists want to justify the constant power grabs.

    #WAR against the -ists.
