KITV4 Exclusive: TSA Admits Breast Pump Mistake

KITV4

LIHUE, Hawaii — Transportation Safety Administration officials admit one of their agents at Kauai’s Lihue Airport made a mistake by telling a Maui mother she could not carry her breast pump onboard the plane, while the milk bottles were empty.

In an exclusive interview with KITV4 News, Amy Strand said she was traveling from Lihue to Maui Wednesday afternoon on business when she was flagged for additional screening.

Strand with traveling with 9-month-old daughter Eva, and was carrying an electric breast feeding pump.

Strand told her she could not bring the breast pump with her because the bottles were empty.

When Strand asked for a private area to plug the machine into, to pump her breast milk, the agent reportedly told her to “go into the women’s bathroom.”

Strand said she was “embarrassed and humiliated,” when she was forced to plug into the only outlet in the women’s restroom, which was next to the sink and facing a wall of mirrors.

I’ve been to Lihue/Kauai in the mid 90s. It was fun. Even though I’m male nobody wanted to measure my tit milk. And I drank quite a few Mai Tais for free. Fun island to explore with a Jeep.

    Dear postee..
By the title it seems like you intended a “gotcha” type of motive but the intention fails because they admited to a wrong doing that wasn’t supposed to happen. If they had said “Yea that happened and we’re proud of it” then I’d give you a high five for catching them but that’s just simply not the case.

It becomes obvious that TSA authorities, just as most other governmental employees, lack the ability to be trained in the multitude of rules and regulations they are required to enforce. It just goes to show how over-regulated the American public is when it comes to safety, security, health, welfare, taxation and business. Someone please, let ivan know this is a typical situation that reflects on governmental stupidity and corrupt, anti-Constitutional fascism.

    Dear ivan,
how many breast-feeding women have to be harassed by these morons before they catch on that breast milk isn’t combustible (in or out of the original containers) and empty bottles are not a danger? This was ridiculous from the get-go. It’s not a “gotcha” so much as a “this should never have happened in the first place” post.

Not looking forward to flying in a couple weeks. As a middle-aged white woman with no history of violence or anti-American activities, I know I’m going to get the full treatment. :P

Ivan, most of us come here because we like the posts and the posters.

In ballooning there is a term called terminal velocity. It means the fasted a balloon will decend without adding heat to slow or stop your decent. I believe the TSA may have need of a new term. Terminal stupidity, meaning these assholes can’t get any stupider. I’m curious as to what these minimum wage neanderthals actually get paid.

    Ivan.. effoff.
Bottom line ..These people are another group of bloated, unionized, products of affirmative action. Anyone in his/ her right mind can stand in line for a flight and see what individuals need to have further security checks period. White woman wearing a sundress carrying a baby with cheerios in her hair = no threat. Grungy granola “dude” with eyes rolling to the back of his head = threat. Indian folks with five kids making a lot of noise with a dusty chicken in the luggage = check but no threst. Others, not very friendly, complaining over every little shit under the sun, appeased by the US government while a woman has her face/body concealed = big threat.
