In Memoriam: Andrew Breitbart (1969-2012)

BigGovernment.com

With a terrible feeling of pain and loss we announce the passing of Andrew Breitbart.

Andrew passed away unexpectedly from natural causes shortly after midnight this morning in Los Angeles.

We have lost a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a dear friend, a patriot and a happy warrior.

Andrew lived boldly, so that we more timid souls would dare to live freely and fully, and fight for the fragile liberty he showed us how to love.

Andrew recently wrote a new conclusion to his book, Righteous Indignation:

I love my job. I love fighting for what I believe in. I love having fun while doing it. I love reporting stories that the Complex refuses to report. I love fighting back, I love finding allies, and—famously—I enjoy making enemies.

Three years ago, I was mostly a behind-the-scenes guy who linked to stuff on a very popular website. I always wondered what it would be like to enter the public realm to fight for what I believe in. I’ve lost friends, perhaps dozens. But I’ve gained hundreds, thousands—who knows?—of allies. At the end of the day, I can look at myself in the mirror, and I sleep very well at night.

Andrew is at rest, yet the happy warrior lives on, in each of us.

I am home with my 4 year old son, he asked why I was crying and brought me tissues, I explained to him that one of America’s Greatest Heroes has died. My little boy gave me hugs and brought more tissues.

I haven’t been very good at processing this. I haven’t cried about the death of someone known to me only at a distance since, well I don’t know. Maybe Reagan? He was a huge bright funny fearless warrior.

I read his sites, loved the videos, read his book and hoped one day to meet and shake his hand to thank him for fighting the good fight with such passion, humor and integrity.

    My condolences to his family.

    Rest in Peace, big man.

    _______

I was listening to talk radio on my way home from work and the guy (sorry, don’t remember who) was playing clips of Andrew and him talking about God. The guy said something about Andrew being an agnostic and Andrew said he was leaning closer to God than ever. He had just finished reading CS Lewis Mere Christianity and was struck with just how sane and intelligent Mr. Lewis was.

I’m praying that God spoke to him before he died. – c

I just saw him in Troy, Michigan on Saturday. Frank Beckmann is running some of the interview he did with him on Friday right now on WJR. He mentioned Breitbart was on the Atkins diet and his eating habits were a problem for him. Maybe heart? Don’t know.

I know I’ve always enjoyed his writings. I’ve admired his boldness, courage and beliefs. His autograph inside my copy of his book, “Fight the Man!” A comment like that would be expected from him.

I lost my kitty today too. Rusty was 14 years old. They found a large tumor in his tummy yesterday. Surgery was this morning. Cancer everywhere. They sewed him back up and gave him peace.

Rusty was a brave warrior too.

I made a comment about his CPAC speech that he looked a little too amped up…makes me wonder if he wasn’t doing stimulants to maintain his frantic pace. Too many Red Bulls with a weak heart can do major damage.

Richard you are right…way too early to make the “natural causes” call…toxicology takes anywhere from a week to a month or more.

Such a tragedy. I think it’s fair to say that he was the foremost figure in the re-energizing of the internet conservative movement as well as the best watchdog we had against the MSM. A talented, articulate man who tried to keep the left honest and turn over the rocks so that the people could see the truth. He will be sorely missed. It’s time for others like Bill Whittle to step forward and help fill the void left by Andrew’s passing and ensure that the momentum he established doesn’t falter under the left’s attacks which will now surely come.

RIP Andrew. Our sympathies go out to your family.

Fox quotes his father in law saying that Andrew had been dealing with heart problems this past year. Sounds like it may have been a heart attack but given the nasty, evil nature of the left, it’s only natural to suppose something more sinister. As one of the other commenters noted, it’s hard not to think of the assassinations of people like Georgi Markov when you hear news like this. It may not be entirely valid but it’s not irrational.

I was shocked, and also immediatly assumed foul play. However, even Breitbart.com is saying natural causes at this point. It is not unheard of for someone of his age to be struck down by heart problems (all you 42 year olds getting nervous- I’m 54, I know my clock is ticking…). However, it wouldn’t take much to convince me it wasn’t natural.
I am having T shirts made:

    “I AM ANDREW BREITBART!”

    Never Give Up.

I pray that each of us will remember Andrew and stand a little stronger, move with conviction into uncomfortable conversations and honour his memory.

Let this not be a day of sorrows alone, instead in our time of grieving, may his spark ignite us all, and may we become the inferno that burns away the chaff and rot that he exposed.

    “For Good”
    ~ Wicked

    I’ve heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
    Bringing something we must learn
    And we are led
To those who help us most to grow
    If we let them
And we help them in return
    Well, I don’t know if I believe that’s true
But I know I’m who I am today
    Because I knew you…

So let me say before we part
    So much of me
Is made of what I learned from you
    You’ll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart

    …Because I knew you
I have been changed for good.

    Carry on for Andrew…..

It takes a righteous sonofabitch to bring me to tears at their passing. This sucks. This just sucks. Breitbart was indeed our modern John Adams. Tough, fearless defender of every cintilla of conservatism.

Breitbart didn’t give a sh!t who you supported. Palin, Romney, Gingrich, Santorum, flippin’ Pawlenty…. it mattered not. The goal was crushing the institutional left, and in that regard there was no better fighter on our team.

    Fearless. Indeed.

His approach was to run full speed right into the heart of the enemies lines and wage all out war, and literally everyone was inspired by his courage and fortitude. If you were not, you were irrelevent.

    Damn. This sucks.

Recently at CPAC he stated: … “Anyone who’s willing to stand next to me and fight the Progressive Left, I will be in that bunker, and if you’re not in that bunker because you’re not satisfied with this candidate, more than shame on you, you’re on the other side.”…

One of his less known videos, but shows the courage and character of a true patiot.

Andrew Breitbart was one of my heroes in the political world. I have so much respect for him and the way he took the fight to the libs and the media. I’ll never forget when he single handily took on an entire group of protesters and sent them fleeing when the regessives protested an event he was at.

He didn’t care what others said about him, would not cower to the cowardly attacks regressives would use against him and fought for what he believed in. This is a sad day for America but hopefully one day his vision of what America should be will come to fruition.

I appreciate the kind thoughts from everyone who expressed sorrow over the shooter household’s loss of Rusty. But I must tell you, today is a day to reflect upon what each and every patriot has lost as a means of courage and voice. Today is a day to affirm our commitment to the preservation of our Constitution and now is the time to vow that we will carry on Mr. Breitbart’s message of TRUTH! We must adopt his bravery. We must hone our investigative skills. We must put our support behind his company’s goals and stick our damn chests out in defiance when we are confronted by the idiocy and lies of the Left!

Rusty Cat left our family with memories and love and lessons learned. (He also left us a dirty litter box, but I don’t blame him for my laziness!) One thing Rusty was good at was being a mouser. I appreciated every dead rodent he brought to the middle of my kitchen floor to brag about! What Mr. Breitbart exposed and left us to clean up is government corruption, cover-ups, overspending, and deception. It’s time to become mousers, my IOTW friends!

Conservatives, Libertarians, Independents, Democrats and everything in between…our job is to crush the Statists in our country. When they yell, we yell louder. When they push, we push back harder. We must not shrink.

If they don’t like it, they can leave this great country to go somewhere that has their Utopian ideals already in play. And so it begins. International Business Times’ coverage of Brietbart’s death dripping with obnoxious “Oooh! Maybe he was a druggie!” innuendo:

“The exam may take place as soon as Friday,” Harvey wrote. “Whether or not we have a COD [cause of death] at that time is another story. We may end up waiting for tox.”

“Tox” refers to a full toxicology report, often undertaken when a person dies suddenly to determine whether drugs, alcohol, poisons or other foreign substances were a factor.

A sad day for America as the Founders envisioned it. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I guess it’s because Andrew Breitbart worked to reveal the Left for what it is that we see such vitriolic hatred from some of them upon his death.

I found one particularly revealing example of the Left’s “compassion” over at Instapundit. They had a link to a Faith Pennick Twitter feed. Do a search if you like to see someone as ugly on the inside as she is on the outside.

When people like her react as she did, it only means that Mr Breitbart was exposing them like a flashlight on roaches.

He has always been a conservative and, I think, Holliwood gave him the cold shoulder. IT didn’t deter him though. In the closing lines of this article, about Muslims and liberals, he states: “But leftists are not just hateful, they are stupid.” Worth the google.

I knew him to be fearless, a stand-up guy, a warrior for what is right and good. Like a blow in the gut was what I woke up to this morning. I keep telling myself that’s a selfish thing–I should rejoice that he is with the Lord and Washington and Reagan. I guess they all needed him to go over battle plans. Andrew! Andrew! Conspiracy and Andrew Breitbart

American conspiracy theories come in all stripes, from the goofy to the believable, from the bizarre to the likely, from the cruel to the fawning.

Did Lee Harvey Oswald act alone? Was 9/11 an inside job? Did Whitney Houston intentionally kill herself?

The very untimely death of arch-conservative Andrew Breitbart promises to fuel suspicions that foul play was involved. Indeed, another arch-conservative, radio commentator Michael Savage, has already suggested Breitbart was assassinated.

The 43 year old Breitbart, who had said three weeks earlier, ”Wait til they see what happens March first,” died near his Los Angeles home on Thursday, March first. According to the Associated Press and Reuters, the conservative firebrand had a history of heart problems and his personal website, Breitbart.com, reported he died “unexpectedly from natural causes” although no cause has yet been provided.

Indicative of official doubt as to reasons for his sudden death, the LA coroner’s office announced it would conduct an autopsy. Whatever the autopsy findings, it can be certain many will conclude Andrew Breitbart was murdered by one of his many enemies.

Aside from the deaths of Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck, no conservative’s passing would have delighted the rabid left more than Breitbart’s and his enemies began to spew their hatred in venomous articles and tweets within hours of the reports.

The taxpayer-subsidized NPR called him a “provocateur” and ”bombastic.” The Huffington Post’s Arianna Huffington was about the only prominent liberal who didn’t rip Breitbart. She couldn’t bring herself to describe his political influence but did praise him as a passionate, exuberant, and fearless friend.

WashingtonExaminer.com published a few of the earliest tweets, beginning with Slate.com’s Matt Yglesias’, “Conventions around dead people are ridiculous. The world outlook is slightly improved with @AndrewBrietbart dead.”

That mean-spirited observation was gracious compared to others including, “Andrew Breitbart now enjoying afternoon tea with Hitler good riddance you hack,” ”Andrew Breitbart died? Is it wrong that I’m happier about that than when they got bin Laden and Saddam?” ”Breitbart dead? More republicans should follow his lead,” “Andrew Breitbart is dead, He was a vile excuse for a human being,” and “Andrew Breitbart haha youre dead and in hell being a gay with hitler.”

I assume those tweets were either a consequence of President Obama’s call for more national civility or a reflection of the fear Obamians are experiencing as they await Breitbart’s tapes of Barack Obama at Harvard.

Breitbart referred to the tapes at his recent 2012 CPAC speech, . . . (Read more at http://www.genelalor.com/blog1/?p=15359)
