Movieland’s Carbon Footprint
I made a comment about Ed Begley Jr. participating in a frivolous industry which has an unnecessary carbon footprint. Let me start by saying, “I LIKE MOVIES.” Big fan. But if liberal asswipes are going to proselytize that I need to start ramping back on my lifestyle, and PAY MORE for these inconveniences, let’s first start curbing excess in a few other areas first. Before I have to sweat my balls off in August, because I CAN’T AFFORD CARBON CREDITS, perhaps we shouldn’t make One Long Night or Tripping Forward. I submit a film czar is in order, overseeing the industries excessive use of non-renewable resources.
One commenter said they never gave the movie industry, and it’s shameful waste, much thought. Here’s just a sampling of what makes movie-making an enemy of ”the environment.”
-Scripts are distributed to nearly everyone in Hollywood – The actors finally chosen for the movie start getting picked up daily by the limo service -Some actors will fly back and forth from location shooting – All sets will be air conditioned – Trailers will be air conditioned – Sets will be built specifically for the movie. They will be torn down -Flood lights will be used for night shoots – Rain Bird Sprinklers will fake rain scenes -Fake snow will be made for winter scenes – Plastic and toxic materials will be used for special make-up and prosthetics -Car chase scenes will be done over and over – Streets will be blocked off causing traffic to idle or become detoured – Food will be trucked in, and eventually wasted – Wardrobes will be created – Fireballs will be set off in action movies – Fires are often set – Cranes are used – Then actors will be flown around the world to promote the movie – Then limos will be used for the various movie premieres – People will drive to go see the movie – theaters will be heated or air-conditioned – DVD’s will be made of the movie (using plastics) – Then the movie will be stored in an air-conditioned climate-controlled vault. And this will be done for Oceans 12. This is just what I’m thinking of on the spot. Feel free to add to this list of waste and gluttony.

That’s why I have a hearty laugh when asswipe Michael Moore shows his fat face and craps on capitalism – biggest (and I mean BIGGEST) hypocrite on the planet – besides Al Gore.
Limousine Liberals are ALL HYPOCRITES!

In fact all Liberals are hypocrites in various degrees.

A couple of years ago at the Academy Awards, they made a big deal about being “green.” What they didn’t tell you is that instead of cutting back on the sheer waste involved in the proceedings, they just bought carbon credits – probably from the Goracle and probably dirt cheap.

More effects are used each year, they have almost completely taken over special effects makeup. Ever seen a facility like ILM in SF? Whoa, major footprint. Add the editing facilities, and any other digital houses. Lots of power sucked up.
The amount of cables/electricity for interiors is astounding. Sometimes it looks like a sae of thick black cables.
If it is filmed on location, there is the flying/shipping /trucking of key staff, cast and equipment that may not be available at the location.
The trailers include hair, makeup, regular cast, stars can get their own trailers, bathroom trailers for crew, wardrobe trailers, prop trucks, grip trucks, etc.
Sets and props are built and discarded. (some is stored for auctions, etc.)
I am sure more will hit me after I wake up a little.

Let’s not forget television which might cover even more territory than movies!

Don’t forget the constant self congratulatory awards and film festivals, and the parties that follow….. way too many to list:

And then there is the theater and the music industries.
After I explain the importance of CFL’s to my son, I plan on taking him to see the Broadway lights.

I’d comment, but I can’t read this much copy without pictures. You know, I’m riddled with ADD.

In Hollywood, it’s ‘do as I say, not as I do.’ That was quite popular in Rome right before its downfall.
Ed Begley, Jr.’s dad was a decent actor, anyway.
