I love the photo of the unsuspecting kids in the window and the lion (or whatever it is) coming around the corner!

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Great pictures from a less complicated and troubled time. Thanks!

It’s interesting that the parade was originally called “Macy’s Christmas Parade”

The balloons were released into the sky at the end of the parade, where they floated freely for a couple of days. When they finally burst or floated down, you would get a gift from Macy’s if you brought a piece of the balloons to the store.

    Er…uh…my…parents told me that. ;-)

Great pics! I always thought Bullwinkle was a 60s creation. Maybe mid 50s.

Great photos. I was trying to date them as well and according to wiki (at least this entry shouldn’t be tarted up) says that the first Rocky and Friends show debuted in 1959.
    Have a great Thanksgiving.

I can date one of the pictures (the one with the hippo) at 1940. On the theater marquee it’s showing Charlie Chaplin in “The Great Dictator”…Seems a little ironic considering our predicament doesn’t it?

See the Hotel Astor shot. Those cops on the right

are rookies. Still in the Acadamy. Grey uniforms.

    Ahh memories.

Sylvia. I remember that. I found a piece of Mickey
    Mouse at Orchard beach. 1958.
I’m just kidding. My aunt told me that years ago.

Wonderfully nostalgic! Even on the holiday I’m visiting IOTW and you’ve provided a much appreciated reminder of my childhood and a much simpler time!

    Thanks!

    @Ham&Mothers

E2/5 1st Mar.Div. RVN68-69. It was Marines in the “New Corps” the put the Devil in front of the Doc. I have a good friend who was Doc at A1/9. But that was before Viet Nam (before the “Walking Dead”). Semper Fi!

Wonderful pictures. I esp. liked the one of Uncle Sam standing tall. New York City at this time of year was always magical, even to a kid from the ‘burbs.
