Best Assessment I’ve Read Yet For Why a Newt Presidency Makes Sense

Home - by - January 20, 2012 - 18:30 America/New_York - 74 Comments

Moonbattery has endorsed Mitt Romney.

Here is a comment that intrigues me -

Reaganite Republican says:

One thing you hear about is Newt’s ego and ‘megalomaniac’, etc.

Well, consider this thought- the ball is REALLY teed up for any who’d like to be a conservative hero of all time… think about it.

I mean seriously, the opportunity is right there, and NOW: Newt said he’s going to institute a
Reagan-Laffer-Kemp agenda… right?

Pulling the country out of the steep descent of the bizarre and destructive Obama era could make Newt the man of history his ego has long craved… and he’s surely smart enough to smell the opportunity

That’s a pretty powerful motivator for him to stick to his Reaganite platfrom… the ego is far from a negative imho, now that he’s so obviously matured

If he’s wandered in his thinking out loud, so be it- I don’t think there’s any gain for him personally in morphing to RINO in office… think about it that way. His economic agenda was enthusiastically endorsed by Art Laffer- that ought to count for something.

!snip!

I have to sorta agree with this. I liked Newt’s retort to Santorum who charged that Newt is an advocate of healthcare mandates-  “I realized I was wrong.”

I think we are looking at a different Newt, a Newt committed to being the next Reagan.

It takes strength for a person – then again…a POLITICIAN! – to admit he was wrong.

    THAT is a true strength.
He has – GASP! – matured.

For all the “baggage” people of both parties yammer about regarding Gingrich, there is not one single person running who admits he is as human…with dreams the size befitting America.

Newt is the anti-Obama as far as image and I’m delighted with that. I get a kick out of curmudgeons and cranky old people. His ego? Feh, let him have it if he’s got the tenacity to follow thru and fix what’s wrong. If he win’s the November election he will be remembered as a larger than life leader and very well could be the most beloved president of this generation, at least by conservatives.

But he will be held accountable for the job he will be elected to just like any other candidate.

Teacheru: Watching conservatives standing to applaud a serial adulterer was a definite WTF moment for me.

I could give a shit if the MSM has failed to vet other candidates (ex. Edwards) in the past. The point is he’s playing the victim here by pointing the blame at the liberal media instead of owning up to his shit. Pounding the podium red-faced doesn’t cut it with me anymore. Been there, done that.

Watching my fellow conservatives bending over backwards to give moral cover to this bombastic, narcissistic asshole is disgusting beyond belief. We’ve already got one in the white house.

When, like with Obama(and the last 50 years of America), you’re stuck with koyaanisqatsi, life out of balance, sometimes you need a counter balance koyaanisqatsi.

    Newt might do.

I still vote with the integrity (and counter balance) of a Ron Paul.

But I’d take a Newt, over Mittens.

Maybe Newt could make Ron Paul his vp…? And, then, if Ron Paul died in office, Newt could make a “recess appointment” and give Sarah the vp slot….? Now *that* would be cream!

Maybe history does repeat itself. 32 years ago there was a lame Democratic president who failed on energy, foreign and economic policy.

He was replaced by a great Republic who pulled the country out of its decline, gave Communism a kick into the grave and gave us a sustained period of economic expansion that lasted even through the 8 years of the next POS Democratic president.

Newt would do well to learn from history – Say isn’t he a Historian? How about that?

Who is more likely to bring us out of the current funk? A Historian who studies what has worked in the past and is ready to base his policies on the record of success? Or a former community organizer with little actual practical or political experience whose only real success was only possible because of the policies his predecessor put into place (i.e. killing Osama)?

For years all I’ve heard is that someone else’s private business was their own and quicker than you can say ‘Saul Alinsky’ the MSM attacks Cain, Santorum, Newt. And you say he’s ‘playing the victim’? Yeah, right.

…and by the way, he owned up to it.

”…fellow conservatives bending over backwards to give moral cover…”

The rock-tumbler effect of the Repulican side self-vetting its’ candidates will not only produce a well-polished opponent to Obama, but will also cause that man to be more deeply tied to the base. The process will not reward someone who is not prepared to make serious and sincere commitments toward a conservative agenda.

I believe when that person emerges, whomever it is, we should all throw our support behind him 110%. Obama and the hypocrats will be defeated and that IS our ultimate goal.

    http://sultanknish.blogspot.com/

If you have a few minutes, scroll down to his article from the 18th, “So You Want a Revolution…” in which he talks about the two types of conservative politicians; gatekeepers & revolutionaries.

Gatekeepers are those who compromise their principles shortly after being elected and become “consensus builders.”

“Revolutionaries are rarer. They are dangerous and explosive. Sometimes they are erratic. They are full of ideas, determined and unwilling to compromise. They rarely make good politicians, but sometimes they make very explosive ones. Find the political leader whom the rest of the party hates and can’t wait to get rid of for his obstructionism and sabotage of the gatekeeper agenda, and you may have found a revolutionary.”

    Who does that sound like?

Mitt is a CULT member period! I would take him in a heartbeat over Obama, but I would keep right on preparing for the collapse of our nation that will happen under obama. ROMNEY IS A LIBERAL!

NOW. Santorum has been my #1 pick since the beginning because I believe he is the Conservative Christian with the values closest to my own. BUT… Over the past few days I am starting to think that Newt may actually be better for America right now than Rick because I’m not sure Rick is quite ballsy enough to just flat out slap the dog crap out of the Liberal Commie Agenda. I’m starting to think that Newt’s ego and attitude are exactly what we need to counter the momentum that they have going against us… THEN in 2020 Rick, or Lord willing Sarah could step in and continue to build the momentum up to “Full Steam Ahead”!!!

So Newt f*cked some women. So did Kennedy, FDR, Clinton, etc,..Newt at least married his paramours. Learning about Newt’s life one finds fascination of the smarts this guy had at an early age. As a kid he was into reading political science and history. The quintessential nerd he wasn’t athletic because he wasn’t coordinated. I have to wonder if he was ever given a A.S. diagnosis. He seems to fit the bill. Could explain why he wants to allocate funds toward neurological and mental illness research to find cures.

As for Mitt, even though main stream Mormons don’t engage in polygamy openly, some still do engage in it. They get around this by referring to the extra women hanging around as aunt, cousin, niece. Newts personal life has been researched Ad nauseam everyone seems to take Mitts story at face value. Given the history of Mormons I would be suspect with Mitt regarding his marital views.

Ah, yes… the old Andrew Sullivan “just asking questions” ploy.

Mitt is a Mormon therefore he MUST believe in polygamy deep within his sociopathic heart of hearts.

Ugly American, You probably won’t see this but that wasn’t what they were cheering. They were cheering for Newt calling out the press for muck raking, not giving the Dems equal scrutiny, the timing, the venue and a host of other things. Nobody said adultry was something to cheer about. You’re letting you hatred for Newt cloud you thinking.

Ugly American, you are being such a party pooper. Newt is the one candidate who has been vetted up, down, sideways, inside and out. He even released his tax information an hour before the debate the other night.

How do you know that Mitt is not a polygamist? Why was Obama given face value, and look what we got?

C’mon, put a happy face on. Newt is going to fix things.

Ohio Dan: I do not hate Newt Gingrich. I respect his past service as SOTH. However, I currently find him unfit to be president.

I understand your point but I don’t think the general voting populace will see the nuanced visuals of conservatives cheering an admitted adulterer.

What is red meat for conservatives in the primaries will not be the same for the general election.

Remember that if Romney becomes the nominee. Wouldn’t want you to be a party pooper.

How do you know that Mitt is not a polygamist?

How do I know you are not a satan-worshiper?

    Ugly American

A guy that will not release his tax records and seems to dance away from any serious questions and has tons of money but attacks Newt for being rich. I still say the MSM wants mitts because they have something really bad on him and are waiting till we are stuck with him to release. Don’t you find it odd that they have not attacked him? Oh sorry, must he that is is soooooooooo squeaky clean.

I’m under no delusions that Mitt Romney is “squeaky clean”.

Though I can say for certainty that he has been married to the same woman for the past 42 years.

Unlike some, I will not take my ball and go home if Newt happens to win the nomination.

Late to the party as usual, but bear with me.

This is just an impression – not the result of considered thought, though I do prefer Gingrich by far.

When I think of Mittens, what comes to mind is remembering thinking at the time of how grateful I was that Bush had won the election in ’00, and not Gore. Bush wasn’t great or perfect, and his second term was where I went ‘Woah!’ in a big way.

BUT the before bit? The time was 9/11.

If he’s handed the nomination like the GOP seems to have promised and arranged, Mittens will do an excellent job of re-arranging the deck chairs.

Still feel persecuted / bullied LIR?

I think you can make a point an defend it with two or three posts (Ugly American). After that you’re getting defensive and into obnoxious territory.

I’m leaning to Newt myself, just please God not Romney. Obama sorely needs his ass kicked.
