Proud as I am of our military, in itself military service is not an indication of leadership potential.
As illustrated above, our WORST presidents (pre-Obama), Jimmy Carter and Lyndon Johnson (and Nixon?), were naval officers.
Conversely it is interesting to note that our BEST president was the only one since Buchanan to serve in the ENLISTED ranks: Ronald Reagan. He worked his way up to the officer corps.
As bad as Carter was, he was a commissioned naval officer under the demanding Hyman G. Rickover in the fledgling nuclear submarine fleet at the time and he once went inside of a malfunctioning nuclear reactor at Chalk River with a protective suit on to help shut it down so I’ll say he at least had some balls on him.

It’s hard to tell ever, what he means by anything he’s ever said, done or not done.
As though deeply involved in a perpetual game of pretend, we’re told by the media and reminded by the usurper himself, of how by not appreciating the level and nature of his intellect is where we fall short.
It is what it is, actually it’s crystal clear. Barack Hussein Obama and administration are working overtime getting done everything we’re seeing.
A scripted teleprompter tells us through his orations, what we’re in for; sometimes it gets a little cryptic and needs some decoding. When we think we heard things that make no sense, we did just hear it.
He reveals everything, everytime he speaks and acts. This man is no friend of Israel and never has been. His actions tell us better than words, especially now that he’s in re-election mode.

I’m not a huge fan politically of either Bush 41 or Bush 43, but I like them both personally. GHW Bush was a carrier aviator, and the Avenger was, by many accounts, a tough aircraft to successfully recover on a carrier…so I give him points for guts I don’t have (I was a multi-engine pilot in the Air Force. If I didn’t have 10,000 feet of runway–give or take–I got a little antsy if the airspeed numbers on a takeoff run didn’t get high enough fast enough). GW Bush flew a true dog of an aircraft, the F-102, during his Air National Guard service. That aircraft had a nasty habit of reducing the life expectancies of lieutenants who were unfortunate enough to pilot it, so again, I give him serious points for guts. Gerald Ford was a flight deck officer, Nixon did his part, and so did Johnson. Carter at least was in…and we all know about Kennedy and Eisenhower.
I wouldn’t say that military service should be required to be president…Calvin Coolidge never served, and he did a very admirable job…and it also isn’t a real help (Harry Truman was an artillery officer in a Missouri National Guard unit during WWI. He saw combat in France, but while I’ll give him credit for working hard and doing his best as president, I can’t honestly call him a competent president. Blunt, outspoken, and essentially decent, maybe. Competent? Berlin Blokcade and Korean War are all I have to say to that). What matters most is character. Eisenhower, Reagan, both Bushes and Ford were men of character. Nixon, Johnson, Kennedy, Clinton and Obama were and are somewhat less so to varying degrees. Carter was a pussy and has since shown that he has the character of a teased rattlesnake…his antisemitism and self-righteousness prove that whatever good he may have done in the Navy is tainted by a malignant personality.
Rick Perry flew C-130′s while he was in the Air Force. Ron Paul was in the Air Force medical corps as a gynecologist. Just because they wore the same uniform that I did doesn’t mean they’d necessarily be good as president (okay, I’ll give an edge to Perry…but not because he flew Herks. Rather, because he’s not nuttier than squirrel shit). I’m certain that Michele Bachmann would be a good president, and I have no doubt Newt Gingrich would be better than competent, and neither of them ever wore the uniform. Newt was an Army brat, and Michele has good values. Romney and Huntsman might be nice guys, but their liberalism shows, to me anyway, a lack of character that disqualifies them from consideration.
I’d love it if a veteran could be elected president…especially a Vietnam veteran (and NO, NOT McCain)…but not all veterans are worthy (Lindsey Graham is a JAG officer in the Air Force Reserve, and I don’t want him anywhere NEAR the White House, let alone the Senate!). We’ve seen that with Truman, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon and Carter. Perhaps we should also look at the candidate’s overall record…and if military service is there, consider the quality of that service (Kennedy wasn’t a bad commander, but he wasn’t a skilled one…Johnson was just a self-promoting politician when he was in the Navy…amd GW Bush was, at best, an average officer during his Air Guard service) as an element of their qualifications to be elected president. The fact that Clinton and Obama ran from military service (Obama had to practically have his arm twisted just to register with Selective Service!) shows me that they hsve no character and are unfit for the office they were elected to. Self-serving as he was, I’d still take Lyndon Johnson over B. Hussein Obama ANY DAY…and morally weak as he was, Richard Nixon was STILL ten times more honorable than Bill Clinton! Those two men were at least willing to place their country before their lives and put on the uniform.
I just wish that more office holders and office seekers DID wear the uniform…but if they didn’t, I hope they at least can show TRUE respect and TRUE appreciation for those who did. I DON’T see that from Sax-boy Clinton, or “Midnight Toker” Hussein. I DO see it on the other side…and that’s at least SOME relief.

George H. W. was 17 when he enlisted. He was the youngest member of his squadron, and the only survivor of their bomb run over Chicha Jima, the sister island to Iwo Jima. All the other members were killed, either shot down or captured, tortured and executed by the Japanese. The investigation by the US Navy after the war hushed up the incident for 50 years. The parents, wives, girlfriends never knew what happened to their loved ones. Just that they were missing.
