There’s a high school about a mile or two from my house. During school, there is a police car there every day. Most of the students are Latino. My son had to go there for a few days while I filled out transfer papers to another school. He didn’t wear any bright or distinguishing colors, approached and made eye contact with no one, and ate his lunch alone. He could tell that many of the students were staring at him though. He said it was the scariest and worst three days of his school life.

I’ve been to that school. It is one of the newest in our city. In any other state, it would be the flagship high school. In The People’s Socialist Quagmire of California, it’s just another gang hideout.

    Thumb up +2

Interesting stats on this school and Illinois in general:
    Made Adequate Yearly Progress: No
District Summary Avg. Teacher Salary: 63,215
    Operational Expenditure Per Pupil: 10,959
    http://iirc.niu.edu/School.aspx?schoolID=060162090170002

And if you follow that link and then click on the
School Profile for Parents link, you find that 49% of Illinois students are low income but 73% are considered ‘economically disadvantaged. WTF?
Only 10% of the state’s education revenue comes from the federal government. If this is avg for all states, why does the federal government dictate that you can’t say a prayer at a football game? Time to cut off federal education funds and raise the sales tax 1%.

    Thumb up 0
