As Irony Curtain says, iOTW is “like a hardware store but with gum”, and sure, this is the best place for conservative agitprop hands down, but sometimes the non-political stuff gives a pleasant break. Sit back and enjoy the ride down Market Street!

    I saw a lot of familiar names in the comments…

    Things I noticed:
    All of the cars you see are brands that are out of business, aside from Cadilac.

    All those people are dead.

    The street cleaner wagon was empty.

    What I wanted to see:
    Steve McQueen tearing into the scene in his green 68 Mustang fastback, chasing that black Dodge Charger…

    Thanks, Menderman! I remember this post well.

    It was nice to sit back and reflect on how times were compared with today and wonder how many of those people longed for the “good old days”. :)

    There was a companion video that marked the date of the film as 4/14/06, just 2 days (4 days?) before the earthquake and the video was attributed to the Miles bros. It was contrasted to footage after the quake in about the same area of Market street.

    This is a wonderful recording of S.F. history. I love the individual actions, like the woman stepping up into the trolley and the boys’ apparent knowledge that a camera is recording as they sprint back and forth in front of the oncoming trolley. The music is really great with this film. Thanks.
