I don’t believe in “hate crimes” laws, people have a right to hate whatever they want. But to force your will upon another human being is a serious crime. I’m glad somebody is looking out for the Amish; they don’t tend to fight back as much as they should. You still have to protect your “temple of God.”

@Unruly–
With you on “hate crime” category skepticism. This was assault, pure and simple. People were injured during the assault–that makes it more egregious. The “hate crime” business is tyrannical manipulation waiting to happen.

I don’t believe in “hate crimes” laws. No buts.
Mary: “This was assault, pure and simple.”
So charge them.
And the title still stands; Too often in our society, as evidenced by this story, ‘Murder gets you less than a hair cut.’ That I find disgusting, whether the perp is 14 or 60.

@Maudie–
Not sure I understood your comment above.
The perpetrators needed to be charged, of course. If you thought I meant that they shouldn’t be, then I apologize for any unclearness.
The artificial distinctions spelled out in the current “hate crimes” label is BS. Assault IS the acting-out of hatred of one sort or another. Calling a particular assault a “hate crime” is worse than redundant. It is setting up a scenario for punishing some people more than others, based on shifting PC definitions.
If I have misunderstood YOUR comment, I apologize for that.

Some of the defendants were named “Mullet”. Hmmm.
