A couple recently tiled their floor with pennies.
Comes out to about $3 a square foot. for the 390 sq ft room they did it in.
Just think in a few years or less after Obama, they’ll be able to wallpaper their walls cheaper with $20 dollar bills.

The first (and only) time I visited DC I dropped by the BEP and bought an uncut sheet of $2 bills.
That was many years back but the idea occurred to me that the beautiful gravure of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on the reverse would make a very interesting wall covering for an entrepreneur’s office.
A 2′x2½’ uncut sheet of $2 bills now costs $102 (that’s $64 for the money and $38 for the “effort”) but the idea still is intriguing and not beyond reach, considering what some spend on interior decoration (notably Ken Salazar- $200k of our money for a bathroom).

Woah. Cool idea, but I’m very conflicted about their putting rare ones in the mix. Especially the 1873 error. Meh. It’s their money, and it makes for a unique treatment.

The steel pennies were supposed to be made only in 1943. Some ’43 copper pennies were minted because some copper planchets were left over from ’42. The same reason caused the ’44 steelies when some of the steel planchets were left over from ’43 and were struck as ’44. The ’44 steelies are quite rare and one sold for almost $375,000. If they’ve got a verifiable one, they should dig it up and auction it.
By the way, there was no copper shortage. FDR’s propaganda, pure and simple. Never let a crisis go to waste.
