U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke today announced the intent to create a [National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration]  Climate Service line office dedicated to bringing together the agency’s strong climate science and service delivery capabilities.

Apparently there is a big demand from the American public for “relevant and timely information” about global warming “to inform decision-making about virtually all aspects of their lives”–such a big demand, we need a new government agency to manage it.

“By providing critical planning information that our businesses and our communities need, NOAA Climate Service will help tackle head-on the challenges of mitigating and adapting to climate change,” said Secretary Locke. “In the process, we’ll discover new technologies, build new businesses and create new jobs.”

These ladies in the Ukraine know how to do a protest. They aren’t some skanks like that motley crew from Code Pink or some hags from NOW. They actually bring out the hot babes. Who cares what they’re actually protesting, they look good.

Seems like it was some Ukranian feminist group called Femen. And they were protesting something or other. I think they like democracy. I know they’d like capitalism! No need to do such things for free, girls!

So now that we’ve seen the life-affirming, compassionate ad? They’re still at it. Now NOW says the ad was a “celebration” of violence against women. The Los Angeles Times reports:

Some anger persisted after the ad aired.

NOW president Terry O’Neill said it glorified violence against women. “I am blown away at the celebration of the violence against women in it,” she said. “That’s what comes across to me even more strongly than the anti-abortion message. I myself am a survivor of domestic violence, and I don’t find it charming. I think CBS should be ashamed of itself.”

Yes, the same Terry O’Neill who said that the ad “created a climate” to overturn Roe v. Wade and did not empower women. You know, unlike NOW and the Feminist movement that seeks to keep women as victims.

Oh noes, my daughter just gave me a running tackle hug! I suppose I’d better file a domestic violence report against her. She’ll probably grow up to be one of those “self-hating, gender traitors with Stockholm Syndrome” like her Mom!

As for being “blown away”, the only thing that I’m blown away by is NOW’s utter stupidity and transparent hatred. NOW hates love!

As Jay Newton-Small notes below, Sarah Palin inked some crib notes on her hand in preparation for her “big” (I see we are going to display “civility” with this essay. Okay, I’m up to it.) speech to the Tea Party soiree.(Soirees are for the upper west side. This was a rally.) This has caused glee and derision in the left-wing blogosphere (as has her rather, well, unsubtle wearing of a joint US-Israeli flag pin). I have no problem with either gesture. (Yeah, you do. You have a problem with EVERY gesture Palin makes, the left hates her very existence.)

Karl Eikenberry, our Ambassador in Kabul, has been known to wear a joint US-Afghanistan pin; Christopher Hitchens, perpetual provocateur, (as opposed to Joe Klein and THIS essay) wears a US-Kurdistan pin; I’ve been known to wear a green tie when discussing Iran on television. (To honor the top stripe in the Iranian flag.) As for the crib notes, all politicians use bullet points. Some use teleprompters. (And one guy uses them so he won’t fumfer at a 6th grade show and tell session.) It doesn’t matter what you crib. It matters what you say. (Corpsemen.)

And that’s where I have a problem with Palin: what she said was drivel. (Corpsemen.) No, let me amend that: it was anti-intellectual drivel. Obama is a bad Commander-in-Chief because he’s a…law professor. (No. He’s a bad Commander-In-Chief because of his Commanding, and he’s a bad law professor, to boot. See Clarice Feldman deconstruct Obama here) No matter that this bad Commander-in-Chief has taken more concerted and aggressive action against Al Qaeda–more drones, more covert actions in Yemen and Somalia, more support for Pakistani military campaigns agains the Taliban, more troops for Afghanistan (wait, so Bush was bad because he wasn’t aggressive enough against Al Qaeda? Interesting ) –than the baseball team owner (what business experience did Obama have, by the way? Did he run a kool-aid stand?) who proceeded him in office. He’s a law professor. (A bad one.) 

He’s a member of the elite. (Elite what? That, so far, unnamed elite club that will consist of  Jimmy Carter and himself?)  Which has come to be a term of opprobrium among the nitwit populists (Corpsemen) of the right–unquestioned, increasingly, by would-be conservative intellectuals like Bill Kristol and assorted Podhoretzs. (When the popular idea is to lower taxes and reduce government intrusion you are, ipso facto, a nitwit. Gotcha, Klein.) I’m sure there’s an aphorism somewhere–readers, please help–about the fate of great nations that celebrate ignorance and denigrate contemplative thought. (Um… Cuba?)

Yesterday, a commenter asked if there was any form of populism that I could support. The answer is yes: democracy. (That’s exactly what Michael Moore said. Do I sense a new talking point emerging, one that nervously evokes something, anything, American?) But populism, as a movement, has a sorry history (as opposed to socialism’s grand history)–it emanates from anger and often ignorance, and quickly devolves into bigotry and hatred. (As opposed to Joe Klein’s bigotry and hatred.)  

Occasionally, populism will produce some good ideas: the populist movement of the 1890’s gave birth to many of the progressive reforms (WAIT… you were going to list GOOD ideas, you silly) –the income tax, (Outstanding idea!) the federal reserve system, women’s suffrage–that were enacted in the first 20 years of the last century. Ross Perot’s fiscal hissy-fits  (you see, you’ve just outed yourself, calling for fiscal responsibility is a hissy fit. Maybe you should move to Greece?) led to the balanced budgets that Bill Clinton and the Republican Congress (wow… I’m impressed… with your complete ignorance on how the budget was balanced. It was through Palin-like ideas. You know, the dumb bitch) produced in the 1990s.

The current populist movement could provoke badly needed financial regulatory adjustments. (Teabagging has it’s merits.) But the excellent policies that populism sometimes produces almost always come accompanied by social abominations. (Throw the baby out with that racist card bath water.) The populism of the 1890s was accompanied by fierce anti-semitism (much like the left of today) and racism–and the legislative idiocy of Prohibition. The right-wing populism of the past thirty years has been accompanied by a celebration of ignorance, (gotcha, I did the math, Ronald Reagan was an idiot – Jimmy Carter was brilliant) a nativist anti-immigrant fury (for the last time DOUCHEBAG, it’s anti ILLEGAL immigration) and, more recently, among some evangelicals, by the undue celebration of Israeli expansionism (as a prophetic prelude to the Rapture–which may have had something to do with flag pin Palin was wearing). (Huh?) 

Anti-elitism is as American as apple pie, and a good thing, too, in most cases. This is a democracy; the more democratic it has become, the better. Anti-intellectualism is something else again, as is the celebration of some nonexistent “real” America (America is going to be non-existent without those “real” Americans, you know, the ones you’re deriding and trying to tax into oblivion), populated inevitably by melanin-deprived pickup truck owners. (Only white people drive pick-ups, also, they hate you, Scott!!! )

Those who celebrate Sarah Palin’s lack of knowledge as a form of “authenticity” superior to Barack Obama’s gloriously American mongrel (did you just call our glorious president a mongrel? Now you’re starting to make sense) ethnicity and self-made intellectuality (by what measure are you calling Obama an intellectual? Because of the “D” next to his name? Has to be, because the left calls Clarence Thomas an idiot. And Colin Powell toggles between brilliant and idiotic, depending on which way he threatens to register to vote) are representatives of a long-standing American theme–the celebration of sameness, and mediocrity, in a country that has succeeded brilliantly because of its diversity and restlessly eccentric genius (let’s examine some of those eccentric geniuses; Jefferson, Franklin, Ford, Edison, Moses, Goddard, Salk, – what an eccentric bunch. I understand they were huge Warhol and Mapplethorpe fans, you know, those other geniuses.) Happily, it has almost always been a losing theme. And, indeed, in the truest sense, it can be called anti-American. (You don’t even know what America is, Joe. You live in the outer fringe, deluding yourself that you and your ilk are the engines of America, meanwhile you’re the knock in the engine.) (Corpsemen.)

Yes, I do realize that “feminist lunacy” is sort of redundant.

Those shocking ads, portraying a Mother’s love for her son, are what had Feminists’ panties (sorry for that visual) in a bunch. Of course, they had nothing to say about the Go Daddy ads, as Ed Morrissey notes. Lunacy.

National Organization for Women (NOW) President, Terry O’Neill went so far as to say the following about the Tebow ad, in response to Sarah Palin’sdefense of the same:

In a statement to POLITICO, NOW President Terry O’Neill said that Palin is “missing our point.”

“The goal of the Focus on the Family ad is not to empower women. It’s to create a climate in which Roe v. Wade can be overturned,” O’Neill said. “There are always going to be women who need abortions. In this country, one in three women will have an abortion.”

Wow. An ad showing the love between a Mom and a son creates a “climate” to overturn Roe v. Wade? If Roe v. Wade is on such shaky ground, doesn’t that sort of take the wind out of the sails of the validity of your pro-abortion arguments, Miss O’Neill? And that is what they are: pro-abortion arguments. You see, self-proclaimed feminists are actually pro-abortion and anti-choice. We’ve seen that time and time again and it was only further evidenced by the insanity displayed over the mere hint of an ad focusing on a woman who chose not to abort. If you were truly pro-choice, you’d embrace examples of women who chose to continue with high-risk pregnancies, creating — and saving — LIFE.
